Travel Tips

August is a busy time in Newport, so we recommend booking your accommodations early. A few hotels and inns to consider are listed below. No transportation will be provided as all are within walking distance of the weekend's events.

We will not have a formal hotel room block for the weekend, but Newport has plenty of wonderful hotels, inns, and home rental options to choose from. Mike and I will be staying at Hammett's Hotel, and we encourage everyone to stay in or around downtown Newport if possible. One of the best parts of Newport is how walkable it is, and staying in town will allow you to walk to and from the weekend festivities, including welcome drinks, the wedding, and wherever the night may take us afterwards!

Middletown, a neighboring town of Newport, also has a handful of more affordable hotel options. Middletown is roughly a 15-minute ride to downtown Newport.

Things to Do

BOAT CRUISE

You can’t visit Newport without getting out on the water! Head down to Bowen’s or Bannister’s Wharf, where you’ll find several boat companies offering everything from morning mimosa cruises and afternoon sails to narrated harbor tours and sunset cruises. Check out Sightsailing, Newport Classic Cruises, or Gansett Cruises.

CASTLE HILL INN

One of our favorite spots in Newport! Grab a drink and sit in one of the Adirondack chairs on the lawn overlooking the water, or stay for lunch and make an afternoon of it. It is a short Uber ride from town or take advantage of the Castle Hill Launch which departs from Ann Street or Perrotti Park.

CLIFF WALK

The Cliff Walk is a 3.5 mile path along the coast, with incredible ocean views on one side and some of Newport’s most iconic mansions on the other.

SCENIC DRIVE ON OCEAN AVE

One of the most fun ways to explore Newport! Rent an open air, electric Moke, golf cart or scoot coup from Scooter World and cruise down Ocean Drive, stopping along the way for the incredible coastal views.

FIRST OR SECOND BEACH

If you’re looking for a beach day, head to First or Second Beach, both just a short drive from downtown Newport. First Beach is right at the start of the Cliff Walk, while Second Beach is a little farther out with a long stretch of sand and great waves.

SWEET BERRY FARM

A cute stop just outside of Newport! Head to Sweet Berry Farm for breakfast or lunch at the farm café, wander through the market, or pick your own fruit and flowers depending on what’s in season.

FAQs

What is the dress code?

Our wedding is black tie. Tuxedos for men and gowns for women. We would love to see everyone dressed up for the occasion!

Will the ceremony be outside?

Yes! Our ceremony and cocktail hour will both be held outside on the pier, followed by an indoor reception for dinner and dancing.

Are children invited?

As much as we love your children, our wedding will be an adults only celebration. We hope this gives everyone an excuse to enjoy a night out, get dressed up, and celebrate with us!

Can I bring a plus one?

Your invitation will include the names of everyone invited in your party. Thank you so much for understanding.

Where should I stay?

The Newport area has so many great hotels, inns, and rental options to choose from. Middletown, a neighboring town of Newport, also has a handful of more affordable chain hotel options. Middletown is roughly a 15-20 minute ride to downtown Newport.

We highly recommend booking your accommodations early since August is a very popular time to visit Newport.

Do I need a car for the weekend?

Newport is a walkable town, and we encourage you to spend as much of the weekend as possible exploring the town on foot.

Parking at Midtown Race Club on Saturday will be extremely limited and requires reservations in advance, so we recommend carpooling with friends, using Uber/Lyft, or walking to and from the venue. If you plan on driving to Midtown Race Club, please notify us (Mike & Callahan) prior to the event.

There is valet parking at Forty 1° North, available at the normal daily rate until capacity is reached.
